Mareike Gutensohn: Get to know our Senior Chemist at Arevo

From growing vegetables in her garden to studying the chemistry of soils, Mareike Gutensohn has always been fascinated by the meeting point of science and nature. Now part of Arevo’s R&D team, she brings her background in biogeochemistry and analytical chemistry to develop sustainable products for forestry and agriculture.

What drew her here? A chance to combine her passion for science with a mission that matters — building solutions rooted in research, curiosity, and care for the environment.

1. What first sparked your interest in this field or industry?

Sustainability and science are the two main factors why I wanted to work at Arevo. Arevo combines both my professional and private interests.

I am a chemist with a strong interest in understanding the interplay between chemistry and biology in the environment. And in my free time during summer you will find me either in my garden growing vegetables, picking berries or hiking in the forest.

2. What’s something from your past experience that you think will help you in your new role?

At Arevo I am working in the R&D team as a chemist. My background in biogeochemistry and analytical chemistry allows me to support the R&D team with questions and challenges at the interplay between chemistry-biology-geology.

At Arevo I can apply my knowledge from my time in academia. And I am surprised of how much of my PhD and PostDoc knowledge I can apply to everyday question in product development at Arevo. And this is great fun!

3. What made you excited to join Arevo?

For me this is in ideal workplace, where I can combine my passion for science, but also work with great sustainable products for forestry and agriculture. It combines both my professional and personal interest.

The strong scientific approach is definitely one of the major reasons to join Arevo. And the team at Arevo is great, everyone is engaged in their roles and want to succeed.

4. What are you most looking forward to in your role?

I look forward to optimizing and develop products to increase the product portfolio of Arevo.

It is fascinating as well how quick the process is between developing a product and testing it in our amazing greenhouse or in the field.

Part of my role at Arevo is as well project management. This role gives me an additional picture on the whole process of product development, not only the side of the R&D team, but also include the business and production side.
